Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) have extended operational hours for Prempeh I International Airport (PIA) and Tamale International Airport (TIA).

Prempeh International Airport will now be open until 11pm, while Tamale International Airport will be open until 10pm.

A notice issued by GCAA and GACL in Accra said this would provide passengers travelling to these destinations the ease and convenience of connecting flights from Kotoka International Airport to Kumasi and Tamale round the clock.

It said passengers arriving from UK, Europe and other parts, who need to connect on flights to Kumasi and Tamale, could now have connecting flights after 8.00 pm to the two destinations and do not necessarily have to sleep over in Accra.

“This will be the case once the Airlines increase flight frequency after 8pm,” it added.

The notice said the new development, according to authorities was in line with the reset agenda by the government to revitalise the economy with the 24-hour economy policy serving as an anchor.

“It will improve the livelihood of Ghanaians and, in this specific case, the people of Kumasi and Tamale,” it said.

It said concessionaires, including car rental companies and food and beverage owners operating at these airports, have welcomed this development expressing optimism for the anticipated boost in their revenues at the airport.

Consequently, domestic airlines have been encouraged to increase frequencies on these routes. Additionally, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued to airlines.
