GFA to assign nicknames to newly established national teams

Africa-Press – Ghana. Communications Director for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has disclosed that nicknames will soon be assigned to the recently established national teams for both male and female.

In a move aimed at broadening national representation and providing equal opportunities across various age groups, the GFA has introduced teams spanning ages between the existing U-17, U-20, and U-23 categories for both genders.

While the U-15 women’s team has already been named the Black Damsels, replacing their previous moniker, the Golden, the other newly created national teams are yet to receive their nicknames.

Twum indicated that the public may be invited to submit suggestions and recommendations for the names. This approach has previously resulted in the renaming of teams such as the Local Black Stars to Black Galaxies, the beach soccer team to Black Sharks, and the Futsal team to Futsal Black Stars.

“I am confident that the Executive Council will soon convene a meeting to address this matter. Therefore, while suggestions from various stakeholders may be welcomed, it’s important to note that the ultimate decision rests with the Executive Council. We anticipate announcing the names of the newly created national teams shortly,” Twum stated in an interview with Peace FM.

Meanwhile, all newly established teams have been entrusted with experienced tacticians to lead the teams in their respective assignments.
