Ghana Debuts First-Ever Baseball League

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana Baseball and Softball Association has officially launched the 2025 National Baseball League season, marking an important milestone in the growth and promotion of the sport.

The launch, which happened at the Koshen Park at Labone witnessed title talk heat ups among all four participating teams, Dodgers, Tigers, Shai Osudoku Hawks, and Tema Giant Hitters Academy.

Mr. Ernest Danso, President, Ghana Baseball and SoftBall Association, speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports said he was proud of the milestone the association had reached after navigating several challenges over the past years.

“Today, with the launch of the Ghana National Baseball League, we take a giant leap forward for the first time in our history. Baseball clubs across Ghana will compete in a structured professional league” he said.

He noted that the league would serve as a platform for talent discovery and a pathway for growth, while echoing Ghana’s strength across the globe.

He said the association is keenly working on building a sustainable ecosystem, one that he believed would attract investment, increase media visibility and also serve as a gateway for opportunities.

Mr. Danso commended the efforts of the coaches, athletes and other key players for their supportive roles in transforming baseball in Ghana.

“We have been talking to some clubs to build an academy in Ghana which I think would help us go far,” he revealed.

The President announced that the league season would run from June to December 2025.

Mr. Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee challenged Baseball athletes to live the International Olympic Committee values of Excellence, Respect and Friendship.

He urged the athletes to uphold these values during the launch of the 2025 Baseball League in Accra.

The GOC President emphasized on encouraging broader participation by young

athletes across all sports disciplines and playing by the values of the Olympics saying “the Ghana Olympic Committee is focused on athlete development across board and we emphasize that athletes must be guided by the Olympic values.”

He highlighted the transformative power of sports, describing it as a vital tool for youth empowerment and national development.

“Anytime I get an opportunity to be amongst young athletes, I get excited because sports has done a lot for me personally and sports has the power to really do a lot of good things.

“Sports has the power to make young people better human beings for themselves, for their families, and for the country,” he noted.

Mr. Akpokavie congratulated Mr. Ernest Danso, President, Ghana Baseball and Softball Association and his team for their dedication to the development of the sport.

Mr. Albert Frimpong, a pioneer of Baseball and Softball also urged athletes to be disciplined throughout the league season.

Present at the 2025 Baseball League launch were were Mr. Bawah Fuseini, President, Ghana Athletics, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President, Ghana Armwrestling, Mr. Mohammed Muniru Kassim, GOC Secretary General, Mr. Owusu Ansah Asare, Ghana Cricket and Mr. George Owusu Ansah, Sports for All.
