Ghana defender Baba Rahman happy with 'important three points' on second Reading FC debut

Africa-Press – Ghana. Ghana defender Baba Rahman took to social media to celebrate Reading FC’s English Championship victory over Stoke City, calling it an “important victory.”

Rahman came on as a substitute and helped Reading beat Stoke 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium to move up to third place in the table. It was his first appearance for the Royals after joining them on loan last week, his second loan spell with the club after appearing for them last season.

— baba abdul-rahman (@babarahmangh) September 4, 2022 The left-back, who joined from Chelsea last week, made a second-half appearance and was solid.

Rahman followed instructions, ensuring that Stoke had no joy attacking from his side, with one crucial clearance, one interception, two important tackles, winning three of three ground duels attempted, and 71% passing accuracy.

The 28-year-old received a 6.9 rating from Sofascore, which is excellent considering he only played 21 minutes. Reading beat strong competition from West Brom and other European clubs to sign Rahman in the just-ended transfer window, and Sunday’s performance demonstrates why the Royals never gave up and fought hard to sign him.

“It feels great to be back on familiar territory and I am happy to be here,” Rahman said after the deal was completed.

“I always think back to winning away in Swansea and then at Sheffield United, which were some of my best memories here.

“Since I left here, I have been in touch with the manager, and we have been speaking all the way through pre-season.

“We tried to make things quicker, but it didn’t happen because the two clubs had to come to an agreement. But I know everyone here and it already feels like home for me.”

Although it is a loan agreement, Reading intends to sign Rahman on a permanent basis. Reading’s chances of a permanent contract will obviously improve if they win Premier League promotion because they will earn a lot of money to cover Rahman’s wages. Rahman’s Chelsea contract expires in June 2024, and the Blues will not hesitate to sell him if the right offer comes in.
