GNCCI Engages Ghana'S High Commissioner on Trade Ties

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) has met with Ghana’s High Commissioner-Designate to Canada, Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, to explore new pathways for enhancing trade and investment relations between the two countries.

The meeting, held at the Chamber’s National Secretariat in Accra, marked the High Commissioner-Designate’s first stakeholder engagement following her appointment by President John Dramani Mahama.

Discussions focused on promoting Ghana’s exports to Canada, attracting Canadian investment, and addressing long-standing trade challenges that have limited bilateral growth.

Both sides emphasised the need for targeted interventions to increase Ghana’s market presence in Canada through value-added exports, improved compliance with trade standards, and stronger institutional collaboration.

The Chamber highlighted critical trade constraints, including limited awareness of Canadian import regulations, certification challenges, and logistical barriers affecting exporters.

Prof. Edu-Buandoh reaffirmed her commitment to closer engagement with Ghana’s private sector to promote trade partnerships, facilitate investment opportunities, and leverage the Ghanaian diaspora in Canada to boost bilateral cooperation.

The two parties also agreed to collaborate on a Ghana–Canada initiative aimed at connecting exporters, investors, and policymakers to identify emerging opportunities in both markets.

Mr. Stephane Miezan, President of the GNCCI, assured the High Commissioner-Designate of the Chamber’s readiness to support Ghana’s trade diplomacy agenda through data-driven engagement, market intelligence, and business facilitation.

The meeting focused on driving measurable results and deepening economic cooperation.
