Africa-Press – Ghana. The Ghana National Fire Service in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, has organised a fire prevention training programme for the Landing Beach Committees at Keta.
The event, held at the Keta Municipal Assembly Hall, was aimed at equipping stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and skills to prevent and manage fire outbreaks effectively.
Mr. Lawrence Waedy, the Keta Municipal Fire Service Commander, who spearheaded and facilitated the training, took the participants through both theoretical and practical aspects of fire prevention strategies and safety measures.
“The training is interactive one which enables attendees to better understand the causes of fire incidents and how to respond promptly and safely and to ask questions for answers,” he said.
He explained that the training was particularly beneficial to the Landing Beach Committees, who were often exposed to fire hazards and flammable premix fuel to take proactive steps to prevent and manage fire outbreaks and ensure a safer environment for all.
He said the training was expected to have a positive impact particularly on the communities where landing beaches have been established to help reduce the risk of fire outbreak incidents and prevent any unforeseen situations at the landing beaches.
“After the training l hope the Landing Beach Committees can now take proactive steps to prevent and manage fire outbreaks to ensure the safety and a safer environment for fisherfolks.”
Mr. Waedy also appealed to individuals and companies to always have a fire extinguisher as well as use it effectively at the various homes and offices to prevent and manage fire outbreak for the safety of all.
He said the training has highlighted the importance of fire prevention and the devastating effects of fire incidents while participants were also equipped with the various methods to fight fires and the importance of having a fire safety plan in place ahead of any unfortunate incident.
Mr. Wonder Setsofia Deynu, the NADMO Director at Keta, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, expressed appreciation to the Keta GNFS for the training that demonstrated the importance of collaboration and partnership exhibited to promote disaster management and fire safety.
He said the Keta Municipal NADMO and the Ghana Fire Service would continue their collaborative works and foster togetherness to deliver a comprehensive training programmes in subsequent days for the benefit of all Landing Beaches and various households in the area.
He further extended heartfelt gratitude and commended Mr. Francis Senanu Dekutsey, Dr. Elikplim Apetorgbor, and Mr. Prosper Sevor for their invaluable support and contributions that were instrumental in organising the logistics and making the programme a successful one.
Some participants GNA interacted with expressed great satisfaction and excitement over the exercise and thanked NADMO and GNFS for the training.
They pledged to apply the knowledge gained in various communities to improve safety at their respective landing beaches for the benefit of all individuals in the municipality.
