Google has officially opened applications for the 2025 Google for Startups Accelerator (GFSA) program in South Africa, targeting Seed to Series A technology startups that are leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to address critical challenges. This hybrid accelerator program aims to provide comprehensive support to early-stage companies, equipping them with the resources and expertise needed to scale their operations and drive impactful innovation.

Program Overview

The GFSA program is a three-month hybrid initiative designed to support startups that are developing AI-driven solutions with the potential for significant market impact. Selected startups will receive equity-free funding of R1 million, along with access to up to $350,000 in Google Cloud credits and 30 days of free Cloud TPU access for machine learning research. Participants will also benefit from dedicated mentorship from Google experts, strategic support on company and product development, and exclusive invitations to technical bootcamps.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the program, startups must meet the following criteria:

Headquarters: Must be based in South Africa.

Founder Composition: At least one founder must be of South African descent.

Product Status: Must have a live, functional AI-driven product on the market.

Market Potential: Solutions should address local challenges with the potential to scale across Africa and globally.

Team Dynamics: Founding teams should have relevant experience and strong team dynamics to execute their vision.

Technical Commitment: The core of the startup must be AI-driven, and teams should be open to leveraging Google products and platforms to enhance their solutions.

Application Process

Startups interested in applying for the GFSA program can submit their applications through the official Google for Startups Accelerator Africa website. The application process involves providing detailed information about the startup’s mission, product, market potential, and team composition. Selected startups will be notified and invited to participate in the program’s activities.
