Africa-Press – Ghana. Mr Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister for the Interior says the establish ment of the National Signals Bureau (NSB) Volta Command advances Ghana’s decentralised and strengthened national security and intelligence framework.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Friday, the Minister said the opening of the Ho Command forms part of a nationwide rollout of NSB regional offices.

“In September, we opened the Eastern Regional Office in Koforidua. Today we are in Ho, and before the end of the year, we will inaugurate commands in Sunyani and Techiman for the Bono and Bono East Regions,” he stated.

“By the close of the year, four new regional commands will be fully operational, bringing intelligence services closer to the people.”

He described the Volta Command as a sophisticated intelligence hub equipped with modern surveillance systems, secure communication tools, and advanced analytical capabilities, providing real-time intelligence to support fast and informed decision-making.

“It is critical to our national stability, food security, fiscal security, and the overall peace of the country,” he added.

Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak noted that the success of the centre would depend on effective cooperation among security agencies, urging the Police Service, Immigration Service, Prisons Service, and the Armed Forces to work collectively with the NSB.

He cautioned individuals who misuse digital platforms to spread fear, misinformation and harmful content, stating:

“We now have the capability to track and trace those who hide behind technology to create panic. Let me be clear, this facility is not for spying on innocent citizens, but to ensure everyone can go about their daily activities in safety.”

“To the people of the Volta Region, this facility is dedicated to your protection and stability. Support the staff as they work to secure our borders, our democracy, and our future.”

COP Abdul-Razak Osman, National Security Coordinator, said the establishment of the Ho Command aligns with the President’s vision to decentralise Ghana’s security architecture.

He said the Command will function as a regional hub for real-time intelligence, signal interception and surveillance to enhance the detection and neutralisation of threats within the region and beyond.

He added that the new Command will support the protection of critical national infrastructure and strengthen the region’s role in contributing to Ghana’s emerging 24-hour economy.

COP Osman also underscored the rising threat of cybercrime, digital fraud and online radicalisation, calling on the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.

Dr. George Atta-Boateng, Director-General of the NSB, expressed gratitude to the President for his continued support toward the Bureau’s transformation and expansion.

He said the Volta Command is the second of four regional commands being commissioned this year as part of the NSB’s broader modernization programme.

Recently, 116 new officers underwent a rigorous six-week training to strengthen the Bureau’s operational capacity.

“The Bureau is ready to provide the surveillance, cyber readiness, and early-warning intelligence needed to safeguard industries, logistics corridors, digital platforms and key economic centres that will anchor the 24-hour economy,” he said.

Dr. Atta-Boateng raised concerns about growing misinformation and disinformation orchestrated by anonymous online actors and outlined ongoing reforms including upgraded regional surveillance systems, enhanced cyber intelligence capabilities and improved workforce training, aligned with government directives to position the NSB as a technologically advanced intelligence institution.
