GTA commemorates National Chocolate Week with Sunday School children in Takoradi

Africa-Press – Ghana. Effia (WR), Feb. 14, GNA – The Western Regional Directorate of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has donated chocolate bars to the Takoradi branch of the Pentecost International Worship Center (PIWC), to be shared among Sunday School children in commemoration of this year’s National Chocolate Week.

The commemoration which is in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MoTAC), the Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and the Cocoa Processing Companies was on the theme, “Eat Chocolate, Stay Healthy, Grow Ghana” and a sub-theme, “Our Chocolate, Our Health, Our Wealth.”

It marked the 17th edition of Chocolate Day in Ghana and was aimed at promoting economic potentials of the cocoa value chain while promoting domestic tourism.

Mr George Nkrumah Ansere, Western Regional Director of GTA who made the presentation explained that the commemoration of the Week was to promote the domestic consumption of Ghana’s Chocolate and other cocoa-based products and to highlight the health benefits of chocolate.

He touted the benefits of eating cocoa products, especially chocolate and said it has proven to be rich in nutrients, and for that matter there was the need to introduce the habit of cocoa consumption to the children who are the future of the nation so that they would appreciate it when they grow.

He pointed out that chocolate has a powerful source of antioxidants, reduces heart disease risk, protects one’s skin from the sun, improves brain function, improves blood flow, and lowers blood pressure.

Mr Ansere, maintained that cocoa had good medicinal components, acted as an immune booster, and called on Ghanaians to eat more cocoa products especially in this era of COVID-19 to improve upon their immune system and health conditions.

Pastor Daniel Okyei Boakye, Resident Minister of the Church, on behalf of the Children’s Ministry commended the Ghana Tourism Authority for the kind gesture and promised to consume more local cocoa products.
