Africa-Press – Ghana. A three-member contingent of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has departed for China to participate in the 2025 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) High Performance Programme for young talents.

The team, made up of rising stars Joanita Borteye and Israel Aklie, together with Cynthia Kwabi, Head of Delegation, would undergo intensive training from December 4 to 13, 2025, at the Chengdu National Key Table Tennis Training School in Chengdu.

Borteye and Akliel, who were both beneficiaries of the Olympic Solidarity Youth Athlete Development Programme, would receive specialised support from the ITTF, including targeted training modules designed to sharpen their competitiveness ahead of major international tournaments.

The programme provides a rare opportunity for Ghana’s emerging table tennis talents to receive world-class coaching while gaining exposure to global standards of play.

In addition to overseeing the players, Madam Kwabi would also participate in the ITTF Leadership Programme, benefiting from a special pathway dedicated to developing female leaders within the sport.

Mr Mawuko Afadzinu, President of the GTTA, expressed excitement about the invitation, describing it as a major boost for Ghana’s table tennis development.

He said, “this rarefied invitation is a significant opportunity for the nation, and for the participating players and officials, as the Global Youth Training Camp is an elite, super high-performance programme for the best global prospects in table tennis.”

He added that the Association would further enhance the athletes’ skills and prepare them to compete strongly on the international stage.

The trip, facilitated and coordinated by the GTTA, underscores the Association’s commitment to investing in talent development and strengthening Ghana’s presence in global table tennis.

The participation of the young contingent is expected to raise the profile of the sport locally and inspire more young Ghanaians to pursue table tennis professionally.
