Africa-Press – Ghana. Apostle Nana Ofori (retired) of the Church of Pentecost, has called on the nation to do more to tackle the teeming youth unemployment, and increasing school-dropouts in the country.

He said that was partly contributing to the surge in social ills, including alcoholism, substance abuse, cybercrime, indiscipline and other deviant behaviours among the youthful population.

The Retired Apostle made the call in an interview with the media on the side-lines of a thanksgiving service to mark the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Kings Assembly of the Church of Pentecost in the Sunyani Industrial Estate District.

Apostle Ofori said: “the absence of sustainable job opportunities is leaving many young people idling and thereby increasing their vulnerabilities to negative influences. “When they have nothing meaningful to do with their lives, they become easy prey to social vices.”

He said it was therefore urgent for the government to partner with the private sector and faith-based organizations to tackle the growing youth unemployment in the country.

Apostle Ofori said: “Creating job opportunities and employable skills training programmes are vital in curbing youth unemployment.”

Nonetheless, he said: “This is not just an economic issue, but also a moral and spiritual concern as well,” and asked the clergy and religious leaders to help instill discipline and godliness in the minds of the youth.

Earlier in a sermon, Pastor Dennis Sasu, the District Pastor of the Church, urged the congregation to be loving-kindness and strive to leave holy and righteous lives, which were the foundational pillars of Christianity.

He said: “We have come this far by the grace of God, and it is therefore imperative that we not only celebrate, but rededicate ourselves to the calling of Jesus Christ.”

He urged every member of the church to pursue holiness and demonstrate Christ-like love and values.

Elder Agyeman Debrah, Presiding Elder of the Kings Assembly, expressed gratitude to God first and to the congregation who had supported the Assembly’s development journey over the past decade.

He said: “In fact our celebration is a testament to God’s faithfulness, and we are excited for what lies ahead of us”.

The well attended service was characterized with incessant praises, heartfelt testimonies, and a historical account of the assembly’s growth and development and brought together church members, district leaders, and past ministers of the assembly.
