Africa-Press – Ghana. Ghana midfielder Christian Atsu says former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan’s wish should be granted if he wants to go to the 2022 World Cup.
The former Sunderland forward is eyeing a sensational return to Black Stars for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Gyan has been sidelined, with his last appearance for the Black Stars coming three years ago.
The Sunderland man was a substitute in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 clash against Tunisia.
He has since not been invited with his club career in recent years making it very difficult to consider him for selection.
Gyan last played a competitive game in May 2021, representing Legon Cities against WAFA in a Ghana Premier League. Months later, he terminated his contract with the Accra-based club and is still looking for a new one.
The former Al Ain man hasn’t been active for 16 months, leading many to believe that he has retired. But in an interview with BBC, Gyan dispelled claims of retirement, suggesting he has unfinished business, especially with Black Stars.
Christian Atsu who played at the 2015 AFCON final with Asamoah has called on the Ghana FA and Black Stars technical team to grant the wish of the Ghana legend.
Honour @ASAMOAH_GYAN3 with his last wish🙏

Gyan has played at all three FIFA World Cup tournament appearances by Ghana between 2006 and 2014 scoring Ghana’s first ever goal at the World stage.
He’s the top scoring player in Africa at the FIFA Mundial after netting six goals for the Black Stars.
