I’ll prioritise renewable energy; Ghana can’t industrialise without reliable & affordable power

Africa-Press – Ghana. The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has promised to make Ghana a solar-driven country.

He explained that Ghana cannot industrialise without affordable and reliable power hence his decision to invest in solar if he is elected as president of Ghana.

Speaking during a meeting with Volta Regional House of Chiefs as part of his campaign tour of the region, on Thursday May 30, Dr Bawumia said “I belive that in terms of power and electricity, you cannot industrialise and really develop if you don’t have a source of relatively affordable and available power.

I’ll add 2,000 megawatts of solar power to Ghana’s energy mix – Bawumia

“I want Ghana to move away from a dependence on oil and gas in the generation of power to move towards solar power and wind or renewable in the generation of power.”

He further said that agriculture is going to be part of his key economic policies.

To him, Ghana will need to hold on strongly to agriculture in order to be able to produce more for local consumption and export.

“I think our country needs to hold strongly onto agriculture. Agriculture will continue to be very important in our economic policy.”

He added “we need to produce the things that we are really consuming, to be able to do so we need expanded and commercial agriculture, irrigation and technology-driven agriculture, that is where I want Ghana to go to support the farmers.”
