Inter abandon the Super League

Africa-Press – Ghana. Inter have found a way to wriggle their way away from the Super League project due to a clause that they had in their original contract.

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli insisted at the Football Business Summit on Thursday that the 150-page contract signed by 12 clubs in 2021 was still binding for 11 of those, and Inter are the exception.

As COPE have now explained, the reigning Serie A champions had a clause that allowed them to pull away from the project if it didn’t gain the support of all of their sponsors. They were the only of the 12 clubs involved to include such a clause.

The other 11 remain connected to the failed project, though Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are the only sides to have not distanced themselves from the proposal since it was received badly last year. The other eight, though, still have contracts binding them to the Super League.

“Everything has been legal and transparent,” Agnelli added at the Football Business Summit. “I trust the European judges to decide if UEFA are acting correctly.

“All of the teams must be free to take part or not. It’s not a failure.”
