Africa-Press – Ghana. Italy-born Ghanaian attacker Mario Balotelli has revealed that leaving Manchester City after just three seasons was his biggest career mistake.
Balotelli believes he could have been competing for the Ballon D’or and become more of a City legend, had he stayed a couple of seasons more.
The former Inter Milan striker arrived in Manchester in 2010, and was key to their first title in 50 years when he set up the winner for Sergio Aguero on the final day of the 2011 season as City claimed the title from rivals Manchester United.
Balotelli went on to win the FA Cup to add to his Premier League medal in his three years at City.
While reflecting on his time in England, Balotelli told The Athletic leaving City was a mistake.
“I think that was my biggest mistake, to leave City,: he said.
“Even the year I left, I played very well in Milan for a year and a half, but after that I had some problems. And now that I’m older, I know I wouldn’t have shouldn’t have left City at this time.
“All these years of seeing City improve, improve and improve. I could have been here like Sergio Aguero for a long time.”
“If I had my current state of mind when I was at City, I probably could have won a Ballon d’Or (Ballon d’Or), I’m sure. But you know, when you grow up , you mature more.”
