Africa-Press – Ghana. Nana Kwame Nkansah II, the Divisional Chief of Jomoro in the Aowin Municipality, has retracted his earlier comments criticizing the operations of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force, describing his previous remarks as unfortunate.
In a press statement issued by his office and made available to the Ghana News Agency, the chief said his initial reaction to the NAIMOS Task Force’s operation at the Tano Anwia Forest Reserve, which led to the arrest of two Chinese nationals and the seizure of a Land Cruiser V8 was misguided.
Nana Nkansah II said his earlier comments questioning the credibility and motives of the task force were made based on incomplete information.
“After consulting with my elders and some opinion leaders, I concluded that the action taken by the NAIMOS Task Force was appropriate, and I would like to retract and apologise to the various key stakeholders who may have been offended by my statement,” he added.
The Jomoro Chief commended NAIMOS for its dedication and patriotism in the fight against illegal mining, stressing that he remained committed to promoting lawful mining, environmental conservation, and youth empowerment.
“I will not support any activity that harms our natural resources,” Nana Nkansah II stressed.
