Africa-Press – Ghana. The campaign team of an aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kennedy Agyapong has described as baseless an allegation by former Member of Parliament for Suhum Frederick Opare-Ansah, that Mr Agyapong demanded a GHS500 million contract from fellow aspirant Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
They described Opare Ansah as a disgruntled person because Mr Ken Ohene Agyapong turned down his “persistent request to serve as his Campaign Manager. Although Opare Ansah now appears to support the candidacy of the Vice President, we know his first preference in this race was Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong.”
A statement they issued said “GHC500M Contract Allegations: Hon. Ken Agyapong, the dedicated presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and MP for Assin Central has never sought the GHC500 million contract, nor has he made such a demand. There has never been such a discussion. We therefore challenge Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on whose behalf the claim was made, to confirm WHEN and WHERE such a meeting occurred. The implication that Hon Ken Agyapong would engage in such behavior is utterly baseless.
“Visa Racketeering Clarification: Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong has consistently spoken about how he leveraged the U.S. government’s amnesty program and his personal contacts to help individuals to take advantage of the opportunity. That Amnesty program has given birth to the current Green Card Lottery, which continues to attract talent to the United States. That is a legal business and not a “racketeering” endeavor.
“SuperCare’s Success: It’s worth emphasizing that SuperCare, a business venture led by Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong and Oppong-Bio, achieved notable success before the NPP came into power in 2000. This underscores Assin Central MP’s excellence in, and commitment to entrepreneurship.
“Financial Support to NPP: The contributions the two businessmen made in cash and kind are well documented, and were instrumental in the NPP’s victory in the 2000 elections. Since then, Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong’s unwavering financial support, resource provision, and advocacy for the NPP are well-recognized. His dedication to the party’s cause is undeniable, and it is evident in the support he provides.
“Opare Ansah’s Contribution: While Opare Ansah may have his platform to express his views, it is essential for him to review why his support within the party has diminished culminating in his failure to retain his Parliamentary seat – a feat that Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong has accomplished five times. Opare Ansah’s abysmal performance in his bid to become the party’s General Secretary should remind him of how party supporters value him.
“The New Patriotic Party and its members deeply appreciate the commitment of all supporters. Hon. Ken Agyapong’s dedication to the party’s progress and his contributions are substantial. We encourage everyone to focus on the issues and policies that truly matter to the people of our great nation.”
