Africa-Press – Ghana. Kieran Trippier has arrived at Newcastle’s training ground to undergo his medical ahead of a move from Atletico Madrid.
The right-back is set to become the first signing of the Saudi PIF era after agreeing a transfer worth around the £15m mark on Tuesday.
Trippier left Madrid on Wednesday lunchtime and has now touched down in the North East of England to put the finishing touches on his deal.
90min understands Newcastle have agreed to pay an initial £12m to land Trippier, with add-ons taking the fee up to the £15m mark, and the 31-year-old will become the highest-paid player in the club’s history.
There is also not believed to be any relegation release clause in Trippier’s proposed contract, with Newcastle adamant that they can do enough to stay in the Premier League.As well as a right-back, they want a central defender, two midfielders and at least one additional forward, but more likely two, with the calf injury to Callum Wilson only exacerbating the need for a new striker.
The Magpies are also keeping a close eye on the transfer market in general and are prepared to take advantage of any opportunities that may arise between now and the end of the window.

Trippier is keen to return to the Premier League and had attracted interest from a whole host of English sides, but Newcastle moved aggressively and early to force their way to the front of the queue.
Most of the 31-year-old’s suitors were unwilling to match Newcastle’s offer to Trippier, allowing Eddie Howe’s side to complete a deal without much competition.
