Africa-Press – Ghana. Residents of Krachi East Municipality are sharing their thoughts on former president, Nana Akufo Addo’s recent call for unity among New Patriotic Party(NPP) presidential aspirants ahead of the 2026 primaries.
While some residents believe the call for unity is a step in the right direction, others are skeptical about its impact are eagerly watching how the party’s aspirants respond to the former president’s plea.
The meeting between former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP presidential aspirants aims to promote cohesion and internal peaceful electoral process.
However, in the heart of Krachi East capital, opinions were divided on whether this will translate into electoral success for the party in the long run.
Many pedestrians praised the former president’s initiative, with some describing it as a fatherly gesture to bring all party members together.
They believe this move will promote cohesion and strengthen the party’s chances in future elections.
Mr. Collins Ahenkora Castro, First Vice chairman of NPP in Oti Region described former President Akufo-Addo’s call for unity as a good move.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Castro expressed optimism that if all aspirants take the initiative seriously, it will significantly benefit the party ahead of the 2028 general election.
Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Krachi East Municipal, Mr. Charles Gyamfi Boateng, lauded Nana Addo, describing it as a record- breaking initiative.
He noted that it’s uncommon for a former president to bring together key party stakeholders, including aspirants to offer guidance on their campaigns.
He attributed the former president’s actions to his experience in government and understanding of the impact of internal conflicts on a party’s flagbearer.
Mr. Boateng urged party delegates to closely monitor the aspirant’s campaigns, pay attention to their words and vote for those who heed the former president’s call for unity.
However, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has welcomed Nana Addo’s meeting aimed at promoting unity among the aspirants.
Mr. Isaac K. Kaliwa, acting constituency secretary of the NDC, said the move was a nice idea, adding that the NDC looks forward to a strong competitor in the 2028 election.
