Africa-Press – Ghana. The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park has expressed gratitude to the Government on its bold decision to restore “Founder’s Day”, September 21st, in honour of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

This was achieved through the passage of the National Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Bill.

A statement issued by Dr Collins Rawlings Nunyonameh, Acting Executive Director, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the decision was not only a victory for truth and historical justice, but a reaffirmation of the indisputable legacy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah as the true founder of Ghana.

“As in all cases, while we note that others may have contributed in various ways to Ghana’s political development, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah remains peerless in Ghana’s political history,” it said.

“His singular focus on “self-governance now” galvanized a nation and inspired a continent to break free from colonial political rule.”

The statement noted that as President Sekou Toure of Guinea, once said in his tribute to Dr Nkrumah in 1972, “Those who attempted to humiliate him [Dr. Nkrumah] only succeeded in glorifying him. Indeed, time can neither soil his works nor tarnish his great and proud image”.

The statement commended the Government for this singular decision, which exemplifies in more ways than one, the government’s determination to correct historical distortions and assert Dr Nkrumah’s status as the founder of the beloved nation, Ghana!

It called on the Government, Parliament and the Constitutional Review Committee to take steps to entrench Founder’s Day in law, to safeguard it from future political revisionism and historical distortions.

It said the legacy of Osagyefo Dr Nkrumah must be preserved for posterity untainted and undiluted.

“We also take this opportunity to invite Ghanaians, Africans and the global community to visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra for an immersive experience in the life, work, and legacy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah,” it said.
