Africa-PressGhana. Accra, Dec. 09-The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has expressed concerns about developments following the 2020 December polls and underscored the need for political leaders to be circumspect in their pronouncements.

A press release signed by Madam Brigitte Dzogbenuku, the Party’s 2020 Presidential Candidate said, “premature congratulations are out of order, particularly at this time when the election is too close to call.

“Let us desist from this practice. It has the tendency to promote instability in our dear nation,” it said, adding that the PPP would be the first to congratulate winner of the Presidential race declared by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The release encouraged the EC to “thoroughly review all allegations of criminality and electoral infractions, and to calm the tensions in the nation by announcing figures that reflect the true will of the people.”

It asked security services to act in the interest of the people and not for or against any political party and called on the citizenry to be vigilant and protect the dignity of the country’s electoral system and ensure that actions taken contributed to preserving peace and stability.
