Africa-Press – Ghana. In a significant development, Mr Mahama Ayariga, the Bawku Central National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker, has been officially appointed the Majority Leader in Ghana’s Ninth Parliament.

“… A few moments ago, I was officially chosen by my party- the National Democratic Congress, and my Caucus, made up of 187 members of Parliament, to lead the NDC Caucus in the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.

“… I will be the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business of the Ninth Parliament,” a statement signed by Mr Ayariga, copied to the Ghana News Agency, said on Thursday.

The new Majority Leader replaces of Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, who has been appointed the Finance Minister by President John Dramani Mahama.

Mr Ayariga, who has served in various capacities, including Minister of Information and Media Relations, and Minister of Youth and Sports, expressed his commitment to delivering on his mandate to the people of Ghana.

“Their trust must inspire our actions and guide our decisions. It is for them that we will build a prosperous, united, and democratic Ghana,” the statement said.

It quoted Mr Ayariga as saying: “As the Majority Leader, I assure the people of Ghana that I will rigorously pursue the agenda to reset Ghana, while striving for inclusivity, consensus building, and upholding the principles of probity and accountability.”

“We will foster national unity, advance democracy, and ensure equitable development.”

The statement acknowledged the leadership styles of Mr Ayariga’s predecessors, including Mr Alban Bagbin, Mr Cletus Avoka, Mr Benjamin Kunbuor, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, and Dr Ato Forson, all former majority leaders as guideposts in his tenure.

With over two decades of experience in Parliament, Mr Ayariga expressed humility and gratitude for the appointment.

“I stand fulfilled today as the man to lead the largest majority in the history of our 4th Republic,” the statement said.
