Africa-Press – Ghana. Pep Guardiola interrupted a question about Erling Haaland to say that he would not be providing an answer on the Dortmund striker. Manchester City were named by agent Mino Raiola as one of four ‘big clubs’ that could sign the Norwegian superstar, with their recent success compared to United being noted as they were bracketed with Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich.
Guardiola publicly praised Haaland last season when City came up against Dortmund in a two-legged Champions League quarter-final, and the Blues were interested in buying the player before it quickly became clear that his club had no interest in selling him after confirming a top-four finish.
Raiola made headlines on Friday with his latest comments that suggest Haaland could well move in the next summer transfer window, but before the City manager could be asked about the update he moved the conversation on as he maintained his form for not talking about the transfer market or players at other clubs.
“Don’t ask me about that. I’m not going to answer,” he said.
City spent the majority of the last window pursuing Tottenham striker Harry Kane and received encouragement that a deal could be struck with chairman Daniel Levy, only to have the rug pulled from under them when Kane confirmed he was staying with a week left in the transfer window.
Some late interest in Cristiano Ronaldo only materialised in the Juventus striker joining neighbours United and the lack of a No.9 has forced City to adapt their game. That hasn’t affected too many results though as they lead the Premier League by a point after 15 games.
