Africa-Press – Ghana. Dreams FC coach Abdul Karim Zito is satisfied with his team’s overall output throughout their campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup despite suffering elimination on Sunday.

The Ghanaian side were on the cusp of making history as the first Ghanaian side to reach the final of the competition in the last 20 years. However, with a win just separating them from achieving the feat, Zamalek stopped them.

The Egyptian giants thumped Dreams FC 3-0 in the second leg of the semifinals at the Baba Yara Stadium to set a final against RS Berkane.

Despite the disappointment in front of a boisterous crowd in Kumasi, Zito says his team played above themselves to reach this stage.

“I am not disappointed. I am proud of the team despite the circumstances. Many did not even believe we will get to this stage but we made it,” Karim Zito said after the defeat.

Dreams FC’s remarkable journey however saw them become the first Ghanaian team to make it to the knockout stage of the competition in the last two decades. They eventually extended the record by ousting Stade Malien in the quarter-finals before ending their Dreams on Sunday.

Their journey included outstanding performances in the qualifying stages where they saw off Milo FC from Guinea as well as Kallon FC from Sierra Leon to seal a place in the group stage.

Despite their inexperience, the Still Believe team went on to top Group C with 12 points. Their impressive run saw them four wins and two losses to qualify alongside Nigeria’s Rivers United.

The Ghana FA Cup holders will be aiming to defend the title as a quarter-final tie awaits them against Soccer Intellectuals on Wednesday, May 1.
