Africa-Press – Ghana. The Management Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI) is set to deliver tailored training programmes for public sector and private institutions to boost productivity in the country to drive workers contributions to the attainment of organisational goals.

Speaking at an engagement session with Human Resources officers from 13 public organizations, Professor Elijah Yendaw, Director-General of MDPI, emphasized the institute’s commitment to helping organizations achieve their goals sustainably.

Some of the organisations which attended the session included the Bank of Ghana, Ghana Export Promotion Authority, the National Lotteries Authority, and Ghana Shippers Authority.

“For Ghana to be able to move to its destination in terms of enhancing productivity across various agencies, it is important that MDPI takes interest in terms of reconnecting with all the past organizations that they had trained and new ones to see how best we can renew our collaboration and cooperation in the area of training,” he said.

Prof. Yendaw said it was important to prepare minds and attitudes to ensure the workforce in individual organizations were dedicated to their jobs and put their skills to use to enable the country to attain and enhance productivity to reduce poverty.

He said the session was to reconnect with various human resources managers of the institutions to explore ways to work together to enhance productivity in their workplaces.

He emphasised that no country could come out of poverty without enhanced productivity and expressed the hope that the human resources managers would speak with their heads to understand the importance of capacity building.

“What you learn in the classroom is not just enough for you. You need to practicalize the kind of things that are required to enhance productivity in those organizations. So given the experiential nature of MDPR training, we want them to convince their leadership to take up our training seriously, they should reconnect with us, let us give them the skills that will enhance productivity in their workplaces,” he added.

Prof. Yendaw welcomed the issues highlighted by the managers, ranging from making training programmes more practical and experiential, and the need to create a more conducive environment to enhance learning.

He said he was working with the sector minister to secure funding to help address the infrastructure challenges.

“I think we have rolled out several plans to see how best we can complete the office space for MDPI. I’ve already written to my sector minister to seek some funding support to complete the building to have a fitting place for enhanced training for all organizations in the country,” he said.

He lauded the commitment of the government to local capacity building of all public agencies workers.

Mr Lambert Zantira Ajongban, Deputy Director-General, said since its establishment, the MDPI had promoted productivity improvements in the Ghanaian economy, in both the private and public sectors by supporting organisations to implement processes to attain their goals.

This is done through management training programmes that are aimed at improving the capacity of staff in various organisations.

“We also undertake productivity studies and research. And we do consultancy and advisory services for organisations, to improve their processes, their systems, their management capacities.

He said the Institute had been supporting to date the Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria with tailored training programmes.

“We used to do a bit for the French-speaking countries, but that went down because we don’t have that particular language capacity to be able to support them. So we support them basically through management training programmes. Most of those countries come here for training, and we have that relationship since the 1990s,” he said.

He called for government’s funding support to improve infrastructure and to work with other state institutions to undertake mindset and attitude training to enhance productivity.

MDPI offers various training programmes, including management training, productivity enhancement, and capacity-building programs for public and private sector institutions.

It also provides customized training solutions tailored to the specific needs of clients.
