Melcom Care Foundation Donates Food for Ramadan

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Melcom Care Foundation on Wednesday presented assorted food items, valued at GH₵500,000, to the Office of the National Chief Imam to support Muslims during this year’s Ramadan.

The gesture forms part of the Foundation’s annual social support initiative for the Muslim community, aimed at easing the burden on less-resourced households during the month-long fast.

The items included bags of rice, cooking oil, chicken sausages, non‐alcoholic wine, and cheese.

The Foundation announced that 1,000 packs of iftar meals would be delivered to the Chief Imam’s residence later in the evening for distribution to the public.

Members of the delegation included Madam Sonya Sadhwani, Executive Director, Melcom Group of Companies.

Mr Joseph Kpormegbey, the Public Relations Officer of Melcom, said the organisation remained committed to supporting religious institutions and promoting community welfare.

“This year’s donation is an improvement over last year’s, and it is our hope that these items will help many families to observe the fast with ease,” he said.

Mr Osumanu Seidu, the Executive Secretary to the National Chief Imam, expressed appreciation on behalf of Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu and the wider Muslim community for the support.

He said it would significantly benefit individuals who struggled to afford basic meals during the fasting period.

“These items are going to be very impactful. Many people depend on such donations to begin and break their fast each day,” Mr Seidu said.

“There is more blessing in giving than receiving, and we are grateful to Melcom for continuing to touch the lives of people in our communities.”

He noted that the Office of the National Chief Imam had a longstanding tradition of receiving and distributing Ramadan support items to less-privileged households, adding that every donation was dispatched to beneficiaries across various communities.

He expressed gratitude to the media for providing visibility to charitable activities by the Chief Imam’s office during Ramadan.
