Africa-Press – Ghana. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, has directed the Ghana Education Service to speed up the processes for the issuance of staff ID numbers to newly recruited teachers. The Minister stated that it would help enable the teachers to be put on the payroll to receive their salaries.

Dr Adutwum’s call follows reports in a section of the media that some newly recruited teachers have not been paid a few months after being posted due to lack of staff ID numbers to be used for the payment processes.

Mr Yaw Opoku Mensah, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, in a statement to the Ghana News Agency, said these developments prompted the Minister to give the directive to the Service to act appropriately. The Minister, he said, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to the welfare of all Teachers who were at the forefront of promoting education.
