Africa-Press – Ghana. Morocco swept the top honours at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards on Wednesday, with Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak named Men’s and Women’s Player of the Year respectively at a ceremony in Rabat.
Paris Saint-Germain defender Hakimi claimed the men’s prize after a standout year in which he won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, French Ligue 1 and Coupe de France, and helped Morocco qualify for the 2026 World Cup. He is the first defender to win the award since 1973 and the first Moroccan since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.
Chebbak, who led scoring at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations as Morocco finished runners-up to Nigeria, became the first Moroccan to win the women’s award. She joined Saudi club Al-Hilal this season.
Morocco’s dominance continued as goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was named Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year, while Othmane Maamma and Doha El Madani took the young player awards. Morocco’s under-20 team won Men’s National Team of the Year after lifting the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie retained the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award, and the Super Falcons were named Women’s National Team of the Year for a second straight year.
Cape Verde coach Bubista won Men’s Coach of the Year after guiding the country to its first World Cup qualification. DR Congo striker Fiston Mayele was named Men’s Interclub Player of the Year for his role in Pyramids’ maiden CAF Champions League triumph, earning the Egyptian side Club of the Year.
Tanzania’s Clement Mzize won Goal of the Year for his long-range strike for Young Africans against TP Mazembe, the only award decided by fan vote.
Women’s coach and interclub awards would be announced after the CAF Women’s Champions League concludes in Egypt.
