Africa-Press – Ghana. Ghana’s leading telecom provider, MTN, has celebrated 50 outstanding Mobile Money (MoMo) agents and merchants in the Central Region at a special Awards Night.
The event, held at the Elmina Beach Hotel in recognition of their vital contributions to the Fintech platform’s success, saw winners receive cash prizes, certificates, and e-cash rewards to inject in their business to expand and job creation.
Among them was 58-year-old banker, Madam Theresa Asiedu who is the top-performing agent, taking home GH₵20,000, while Mr Seth Osardu, the best merchant, received GH₵15,000.
These awardees had consistently supported MTN, excelled in their operations and helped drive Ghana’s business economy forward.
Since its launch in 2009, MTN MoMo has revolutionised financial services in the country, serving millions with secure, affordable, and convenient mobile transactions as its user base continues to grow.
MTN Senior Manager for the Western and Central Regions, Mr Prince Nyarko, announced the company’s commitment to empowering MoMo agents and merchants to generate more direct and indirect jobs.
“In the MTN ecosystem, we partner with merchants and agents to help Ghanaian businesses thrive and bolster the wider economy,” he stated.
Mr Nyarko urged the winners to keep delivering their best and supporting MoMo’s expansion, promising annual recognition for deserving partners.
He thanked all stakeholders including banks, non-bank partners, merchants, and agents for propelling MTN MoMo’s remarkable growth.
Mr Nyarko reiterated MTN’s mission of seamless transfers, airtime purchases, financial inclusion, literacy, and an economy powered by digital payments, credit, savings, and investments to empower all Ghanaians.
In separate interviews, the awardees expressed gratitude to the MTN, highlighting their relentless hard work and determination that finally brought them into the limelight.
Madam Asiedu said her recognition validates years of dedication amid challenges, adding that the recognition was the fuel for even greater success.
Another awardee, Mr Osardu echoed, “My perseverance paid off; I’ll reinvest to hire more staff and grow.”
Others described the moment as a “dream come true,” crediting consistency and passion for their achievements.
