Africa-Press – Ghana. Ghana’s creative industry glittered on Friday night as the 2025 National Tourism Awards celebrated excellence in innovation, heritage and hospitality, recognising leading creative icons and traditional rulers.
Held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), the event brought together top performers across the sector; hoteliers, tour operators, cultural curators, artisans, chefs and creative entrepreneurs, all committed to projecting Ghana as Africa’s beacon of culture and adventure.
The atmosphere radiated with colourful kente, rhythmic drumbeats and renewed national pride.
Organised by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) with support from RNAQ Holdings, the honorary awards featured individual, corporate and special categories.
The Ghana Hotels Association was named Trade Association of the Year.
Traditional rulers honoured with Tourism Promotion Awards included King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, (Greater Accra), Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III (Eastern Region), Nana Kobina Nketsia V (Western Region) and Pe Dennis Aneakwoa Balinia Adda, Pe Asagipari II (Upper East).
Lakeside Marina Park won Eco Tourism Site & Attraction Development of the Year for Greater Accra.
Devtraco Plus (The Pelican Hotel) and Lawrencia Sarhene (Veronique Heights) received Indigenous Tourism Investment (Accommodation) awards for Greater Accra and Ashanti regions, respectively.
Creative icons honoured with the Tourism Creative Luminary (Tourism Minister’s Legends) Awards included Prof Esi Sutherland-Addy, Kwaw Ansah, Grace Omaboe, Agya Koo Nimo and Amakye Dede.
Additional recognition went to Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, Kofi Setordji, Prof Kofi Abraham, James Banor, Chief Moomen, and the late Prof Kofi Awoonor.
Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, received a Fugu Award as an Outstanding Cultural Heritage Icon.
Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, was honoured for his regional tourism initiative AshantiFest, while the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings received a Kente Award for cultural heritage leadership.
Maame Efua Houadjeto, GTA Chief Executive Officer, described the event as “a celebration of excellence, a story of pride and purpose, and the growth of an industry uplifting Ghanaians and captivating the world.”
She said service excellence remained the soul of tourism, adding that GTA had developed a Master Training Module for hotels, restaurants, chefs, tour guides and event professionals to redefine industry standards in warmth, professionalism and pride.
Through a partnership with Tribe, GTA is collaborating with Rutgers University, New Jersey, to deliver professional training aimed at strengthening service quality and operational capacity across the sector.
