Africa-Press – Ghana. It is not a recent phenomenon, so I am not sure whom Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the indicted but never convicted National Chairman of the country’s main opposition political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), means, when the former Local Government and Eastern Regional Minister refers to the perennially raging hostilities between residents and inhabitants of some Krobo communities in the Eastern Region and staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) as one that is a unique creation of the present Akufo-Addo Administration (See “Withdraw Soldiers Attached to ECG from Kroboland to Ease Unnecessary Tension – NDC Charges Gov’t” Modernghana.com 8/27/22).
It is quite predictably clear that the Mahama Posse, captained by Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo, has been using some of the Krobo people to destabilize both the Eastern Region, where the NDC National Chairman himself was born and raised, and the entire nation at large (See also, “National Leadership of NDC Visits Lower Manya and Yilo Krobo Areas in the Wake of Recent Impasse with ECG” Modernghana.com 8/27/22). But that the leadership of the National Democratic Congress chose this particular moment of apparently intense hostilities between residents of the aforementioned two major Krobo communities to launch a massive voters’ drive, in the patently dubious name of a “working tour,” makes this entire latest fit of hostilities between the management of the ECG and these two local communities all the more suspect.
For instance, what prevents the NDC’s leadership from scheduling a conflict-resolution conference between the local managerial staff of the ECG, representatives from the Energy Ministry and the relevant personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), on the one hand, and the Mahama Posse and representatives from the two Krobo communities, on the other, to promptly and swiftly bury the hatchet, as it were, if the likes of Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo are genuinely interested in brokering for peace and stability in this “enclave” of the Eastern Region, as the leaders of the National Democratic Congress choose to label the Manya and Yilo Krobo communities? The very fact that the NDC’s leadership, in particular Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo, has an unenviable track-record of fomenting seditious hostilities and other downright acts of heinous criminality around the country, including the Kumasi kidnapping of the three, white Canadian NGO volunteers makes such populist pretense to the desire for conflict resolution on the part of the NDC’s leadership all the more lurid and repulsive.
Then, also, what prevents mega-kleptocrats like Messrs. John “European Airbus Payola” Dramani Mahama, Ofosu-Ampofo and Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, to name just a handful of the key operatives of the National Democratic Congress, from literally stepping up to the plate, as it were, and footing the electricity bills of these apparently disgruntled ECG customers whose main and sole problem well appears to be the woeful inability to pay their light bills, thus their rather capricious and criminal resort to violence and other forms of antisocial behavioral activities? As well, ought to be seriously reckoned the fact that the Krobo communities are not the only communities of their kind around the country that have had prepaid power-supply meters installed in their homes and workplaces or businesses, or even in the Eastern Region itself. So, why are these Krobo people kicking such a fuss about a simple routine procedure that has not created any of the problems being encountered by the ECG’s managerial staff anywhere else around the country?
This is pure and sheer sabotage, were the Dear Reader to ask yours truly. Yes, it is a deliberate attempt to create widespread disaffection among Krobo residents and citizens by the leadership of the National Democratic Congress who, by the way, callously and unconscionably visited complete and stygian darkness on the entire nation during the four-and-a-half protracted years that Mr. Mahama was Chief Resident of Jubilee House. Maybe Mr. Ahiagba and his associates of the Communications Directorate of the New Patriotic Party need to loudly and incessantly drum this often-ignored reality of the country’s recent stressful history into the ears and minds of all Ghanaian citizens and residents who have the salutary growth, development and prosperity of the country at heart.
Maybe somebody ought to also remind the cynical likes of the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress that what was badly managed was the downright depraved and industrially destructive culture or subculture of Dumsor that was viciously visited on progressive, productive and diligent entrepreneurial Ghanaians who, for four-and-a-half protracted years were criminally reduced to the unspeakably undignified status of mendicants in their own country, even as comfortably seated and criminally overfed sociopolitical and economic parasites like Mr. Mahama insolently accused them of not being creative and intelligent enough to work their business schedules around the erratic and temporally rhythmless vagaries of Dumsor, a word reflective of the indescribably gross incompetence of the Mahama regime that entered the global lexicon as the most significant contribution by the leadership of the National Democratic Congress on precisely how not to govern any country desirous of being counted or ranked among the most progressive and civilized nations.
It is also very obvious that the leadership of the National Democratic Congress, the original architects of the criminal and kleptocratic ideology of “State Capture,” long before the South Africans came to it, has absolutely nothing worthwhile to contribute to the socioeconomic and cultural, technological and scientific advancement of the country, thus their constant and perennial instigation of antisocial behavior and criminal activities among their captive and fanatical supporters and sympathizers around the country, in hopes of riding on the crest of popular civic disaffection into Jubilee House, so they could, once again, commence with their reckless and unconscionable creaming of the collective wealth and resources of the country.
