New Aviation Transport Directors Pledge Support for Development

Africa-Press – Ghana. The newly-inaugurated Board of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has pledged to support the realisation of government’s flagship programmes in the aviation sector, including the establishment of a national airline.

Mr Simon Christopher Molai Allotey, Board Chair, at the swearing-in ceremony in Accra on Wednesday, said members of the reconstituted Board would uphold the highest standard of transparency, accountability and professionalism, while serving the best interest of the nation.

Emphasising their mandate, he noted that the Governing Board would leverage various expertise to promote good corporate governance and ensure GCAA operations aligned with global best practices.

“We note with keen interest the government’s programme to establish a new national airline, a flight training academy, and aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul organisation, and we pledge to support the realisation of these programmes, among others,” Mr Allotey said.

“This new Board assumes its mandate at the time of both opportunity and challenge…As we step into this new chapter, I am inspired by the collective expertise of colleague board members and a shared commitment to elevate Ghana’s aviation sector to an even greater height.”

The Board Chair reiterated members’ commitment to working closely with the Transport Ministry to ensure the aviation sector remained “safe, secure, and efficient.”

Members of the GCAA Board include Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, Ag. Director General, GCAA, Mrs Mabel Asi Sagoe, Group Captain Fiifi Adu Boadu, Mr Alhaji Alhassan Mumuni (MP), Captain Nathaniel Kojo Anderson, Okotakyi Komeh VIII, Ms Eunice Grant, and Ms Linda Assiibi.

The Board Members of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB), Intercity STC Coaches Limited (ISTC), and the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL), all agencies under the Ministry of Transport, were inaugurated.

Mr Joseph Bukari Nikpe, the Minister of Transport, urged Directors of the respective agencies to work in accordance with the law to help attain stated objectives.

“As a Board, let us commit to promoting, to the greatest extent possible, a harmonised and inclusive approach to facilitate safe international air travel for passengers to enable us work towards strengthening the confidence of the travelling public,” he told the AIB Board.

For Intercity STC, Mr Nikpe tasked the Board to enhance the company’s operations through “innovative financing and new business strategies.”

Giving the Ministry’s support, he encouraged the GACL Board to explore other landside activities to generate revenue and increase the Company’s fortunes.

“Over the years, our regional airports have witnessed some infrastructure facelifts and a Ministry, we will continue to facilitate the expansion of airport infrastructure across the country.

“These developments are aimed at opening the country for efficient movement of people, goods and services and promotion of tourism,” The Minister said.

The GACL Board is chaired by Mr James Agalga, Member of Parliament for Builsa North, Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare (MD, GACL), Mr Mark William Attipoe, Group Captain David Djan Nkansah, Mr Attah Issah (MP) Mr William Ntebe Ayo (MP), Mr Kwabena Amponsah Dapaah, Ms. Diana Amakie Ashong, and Mr Joseph Enimil-Armah.

That of STC comprises Mr Andrews Augustus, Chairman, Mr Alhassan Ligbi, Mr Merlyn Granville Joseph Gaskin, Ms Mary Nagetey, Mr Emmanuel Kofi Sackey, Ms Millicent Degraft-Johnson, and Ms Grace Monto Bawa.

The AIB Board has Mr Daniel Acquah as Chairman, with the members being Mr John Mmeb Kuyan Wumbortri, Mrs Justina Tete-Donkor, Mr William Ato Kwamina Orhin, Prof Daniel Atuah Obeng, Mr Derrick Amaning Kwarteng, and Dr Jualiana Abagsonema Abane.

The board chairpersons of the various entities expressed readiness to contribute their quota towards achieving the government’s development agenda.
