'No player wanted to leave the club in the winter'- Southampton manager on Salisu's reported move to Newcastle United

Africa-Press – Ghana. Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has debunked multiple reports in the media that Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu wanted to leave in the January transfer window.

Reports went rife on the former Real Valladolid defender joining Newcastle United with a £40million transfer plus add-ons mooted on transfer deadline day. Reports further suggested that the Magpies wanted to finalize a deal in the early stages of January.

However, Hasenhuttl in an interview revealed that there was no player ready to leave in the just ended winter transfer window when asked about his defender.

“As I said before – no player wanted to leave this club in the winter.

“And if, we would definitely say no to everything, because we will not give our players a chance in the winter to leave because we need them here.

“We really need them.” Salisu has played 38 times for Saints in all competitions since moving from Real Valladolid in 2020.
