Africa-Press – Ghana. Madam Joycelyn Quashie, Member of Parliament (MP), for North Dayi constituency has launched a comprehensive programme to train 250 constituents in Mushroom Farming and Processing.
Dubbed, “Agrigrowth Project,” the programme which aims at equipping beneficiaries with practical skills, is designed to promote sustainable livelihoods, income generation and food security in the area.
The three-month programme being piloted in the Awate, Wusuta, and Tsrukpe communities, also includes modules in Gari and Rice processing.
Speaking at the opening session of the programme on Saturday, August 16, 2025, Madam Quashie said her focus was to empower participants to become self-sufficient and contribute to the local economy.
She said to ensure the successful implementation of the programme, participants had been provided with basic Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including Wellington boots, overcoats, gloves, and sanitizers, as well as a monthly stipend to cover the period.
Encouraging the participants to take the training seriously, the MP assured them of her commitment to help secure buyers for their products once they begin production.
“The knowledge and skills you acquire will position you for sustainable income generation,” she said.
She said by promoting sustainable agriculture practices and providing support to local farmers, the programme would not only provide employment opportunities for the local youth and women, but also help reduce reliance on imports.
The project which is being implemented with support from experts in the agriculture and agribusiness sector, is expected to expand to other traditional areas in North Dayi by October this year.
The participants expressed appreciation for the programme, saying the initiative was promising and could contribute to the development of North Dayi’s agricultural sector and improve the livelihoods of its constituents.
