NPP National Executive Committee holds crucial meeting

Africa-Press – Ghana. The National Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NEC) is scheduled to meet in the afternoon of January 17 to deliberate on crucial party issues.

It is expected that the meeting will among others, discuss the forthcoming parliamentary primaries in constituencies with sitting NPP MPs slated for January 27.

An invitation to the meeting signed by General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, sighted by press reads thus, “I extend to you warm greetings from the National Secretariat of the Party. By the order of the National Chairman, Mr. Stephen Ayesu Ntim, you are hereby notified that there will a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. The meeting is scheduled as follows: DATE: Wednesday, January 17, 2024 TIME: 2:00 p.m. VENUE: Opera 2 Hall, Alisa Hotel Notice is hereby served. Thank you.”

Aside the pending parliamentary primaries, the flagbearer of the Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is expected to submit a list of possible candidates for his running mate slot, for consideration.

It appears ‘reasonable, sensible’ to select Bawumia’s running mate from Ashanti Region – Mike Oquaye

Unofficially, the names of the Minister of Education, Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum, Energy Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu among others, have come up as possible running mates.

Although the constitutionally required deadline for this important exercise fell due in December 2023, Dr Bawumia pleaded with the NEC on December 6 to allow him more time to submit the list.

“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia requested an extension of time to consult further on his selection of a running mate ahead of the 2024 elections. The Council has granted this request and is looking forward to a new date from the flagbearer. Mr. Kodua told reporters.
