Africa-Press – Ghana. Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has paid a special visit to regional and constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region to commend them for the party’s victory in the 2024 general elections.

She patted the executives on the back for working relentlessly to secure 18 of the 23 parliamentary seats in the region and ensuring an unprecedented landslide victory for President John Dramani Mahama.

“We thank you all for the efforts you made and this shows that we can even secure more seats if we work harder. Your hard work will certainly not go unrewarded,” she stated at the Central Regional Coordinating Council (CRCC) in Cape Coast, as part of her three-day official visit to the Central and Western regions.

She is scheduled to grace the grand durbar of the festival of the chiefs and people of Komenda, her hometown on Saturday at 13:00 hrs and join the Ghana Navy Memorial Day celebration at the Naval Base in Takoradi on Sunday.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang assured that the party executives would be rewarded for their hard work, but urged them to exercise some patience as the government worked to put the country in a better position for development.

She reiterated government’s commitment to keeping a lean government, indicating that it was not feasible to appoint everybody into the public sector.

“The past administration over-bloated the government and the public sector and we were all witnesses to the consequences on the country. If we give you appointment and we are not able to pay you after a few months, we will be facing your wrath.

“And so we do not intend to go that route. Instead, we will work to create the conducive environment for everyone to thrive,” she said, and urged them to continuously support the government collectively, because there was greater work to do for the development of the country.

She apologised for not visiting them sooner, citing the weight of her responsibilities and ill-health.

Mr Richard Kofi Asiedu, Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, called for calm and unity in the party, assuring that all internal challenges would be resolved amicably.
