Africa-Press – Ghana. Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has declared her bid to contest for New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary.
The former Minister of Communication and Digitalisation and outgone Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West made the announcement via her social media platform.
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful who outlined her mission to revitalise the NPP and lead the charge against the National Democratic Congress, acknowledged internal challenges that had left the party bruised in previous elections, describing the current situation as a necessary phase of introspection and reorganisation.
“We came out bruised, our individual and collective egos battered. We lie not in a good place,” her post read.
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful expressed confidence in the party’s resilience, stating that even if the NPP endures the ultimate sacrifice, it would rise, be shaped, and be ready for the task ahead.
She pledged to restore confidence from the polling stations through to the top leadership.
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful stressed the urgency of the task, noting that December 2028 was fast approaching and that the nation remained in dire need of change.
“That is why we need to re-shape, re-organise, and put ourselves in a good place to effectively represent the desired change,” she said.
She called for unity and commitment, expressing certainty that “with God and the collective will of the Ghanaian people, the NPP shall overcome.”
The contest for the General Secretary position is expected to be a pivotal moment in the party’s reorganisation efforts ahead of the 2028 General Elections.
Other contenders for the position include the incumbent, Mr Justin Frimpong Koduah, Mr Sylvester Tetteh, and Mr Eugene Boakye Antwi, both former Members of Parliament.
