Africa-Press – Ghana. The Zion/Good News Youth Ministry of the Sunyani Central District of the Church of Pentecost has presented food items and other consumables worth over GH¢22,000 to Sunyani Central Prisons.

The items comprising gallons of cooking oil, bags of sachet water, rice, gari, maize, soft drinks, toiletries, sanitary pads, soaps and detergents are to be used for the upkeep of the inmates.

Making the presentation at a short ceremony in Sunyani Pastor Stephen Dekyi Asante, the Head Pastor of the Sunyani Central District of the Church of Pentecost said the ministry also paid the GH¢15,000 court-imposed fines for the release of four inmates.

He expressed worry that about 80 percent of the inmates at the Central Prisons were youth.Pastor Asante stressed the need for the faith-based organisations to help instill the fear of God and moral discipline among the youth.

He advised the youth to avoid acts of lawlessness and channel their exuberances into productive activities and also cherish and help preserve the prevailing peace for progressive development.

As agents of transformation, he said the churches had a lot to do with imbibing good values and principles in the minds of young people.

The Reverend Gideon Ibrahim Ndebugri, the Chaplain at the Sunyani Central Prisons, thanked the donors for the kindness, saying the feeding of inmates remained a daunting challenge for the prisons.

He said food items like maize, rice, gari, and beans were essential to improve the nutritional value of the inmates and appealed for more support.

Elder Patrick Yeboah, the Youth Ministry Leader of the Sunyani Central Church of Pentecost, said the ministry was observing their week’s celebration, and the donation was part of activities outlined for the celebration.

He said the celebration of the week on the theme “Unleashed to go and tell” also inspired them to bring smiles on the faces of the inmates.
