Africa-Press – Ghana. The chiefs and people of Penyi in the Ketu North Municipality have celebrated this year’s Nugoryiza development festival with a call on the youth to take active part in the country’s 24-Hour Economy agenda to enhance productivity and create sustainable livelihoods.
The colourful event, which brought together traditional leaders, government officials, youth groups, and citizens from home and abroad, was held under the theme: “Penyi Youth at the Heart of Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy Pulse: Cultivating Prosperity and Feeding the Nation.”
The Special Guest of Honour, Mr Augustus Obuadum Goosie Tanoh, explained that the 24-Hour Economy policy being championed by former President John Dramani Mahama would open new opportunities, create jobs, and transform the lives of young people across the country.
The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, said festivals such as Nugoryiza played a vital role in promoting unity, peace, and development within communities.
He outlined key developmental projects ongoing under the leadership of President Mahama, including the Blekusu Sea Defence Project (Phase II), the Big Push Road Project, which seeks to connect several constituencies in the region to promote trade and investment and the Keta Port Project.
Mr Gunu assured Torgbui Dadzie V and the people of Penyi of the government’scommitment to continue collaborating with traditional authorities, the Member of Parliament, the District Assembly, and other stakeholders to address local development challenges.
Mr Eric Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament for Ketu North, highlighted various projects being implemented across the constituency since he assumed office, describing them as evidence of his dedication to improving the lives of his constituents.
He noted that Ketu North was the only constituency to have received about 10,000 bags of fertilizer to support local farmers and thanked the chiefs and people of Penyi for their continued support to him and the Mahama-led administration.
Mr Agbana also called for unity and renewed commitment to community development and urged parents to take keen interest in their children’s education.
He expressed concern about the poor performance of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates and encouraged parents to help improve learning outcomes.
Rev. Martin Amenaki spoke about the ongoing Penyi–Ehi road construction and outlined other initiatives being undertaken by the Ketu North Municipal Assembly, including the rehabilitation of the Penyi Health Centre, construction of classroom blocks, provision of mechanised boreholes, and improvement of the Penyi Market infrastructure to enhance local trade.
He commended the people of Penyi for their unity and communal spirit, saying these attributes were crucial to building a stronger and more prosperous Ketu North.
Torgbui Dadzie V, Paramount Chief of Penyi, expressed appreciation to the government for its support and appealed for the expansion of development projects to other communities within Penyi and its surroundings.
