Africa-Press – Ghana. The Upper West Regional Police Command has dispelled the fear of a section of the public regarding the possible spillage of the protracted Bawku conflict into the Upper West Region assuring sustained peace in the region.

DCOP Mr Darko Offei Lomotey, the Upper West Regional Police Commander, who gave the assurance at a press briefing in Wa, indicated that they had put in place measures to ensure the region remained peaceful.

His assurance was in response to a question by a media practitioner at the press briefing regarding the possible spillover of that conflict to the region following recent tensions and spillovers of the conflict to other parts of the country.

Mr Lomotey reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining peace through decisive prosecutions, well-coordinated crime-fighting strategies, and proactive community engagement.

He said the Regional Police Command had held multiple engagements with community leaders, traditional authorities, and youth groups to strengthen trust and cooperation in preventing violence and maintaining peace in the region.

“We have an open line of communication with all communities, and together we are committed to preventing any form of violence.

The Police are taking proactive steps to safeguard every resident and ensure that peace is never compromised”, Mr Lomotey stated.

He added that intelligence-led patrols, targeted security operations, and enhanced Police visibility have been intensified in key areas, alongside rapid-response arrangements to neutralise emerging threats before they escalate.

The Regional Police Commander called on residents to continue to work hand-in-hand with the Police by sharing information on suspicious activities and refraining from acts that could mar the region’s peace.
