Projectbonolo Begins Talent Hunt with a Football Tournament in Asante Akyem

Africa-Press – Ghana. ProjectBonolo has announced its maiden Invitational Football Tournament to unearth young talents at the Asante Akyem District in the Ashanti Region.

The three-day competition, dubbed “Asante Akyem Invitational Football Tournament” would commence on Friday, 2nd May to Sunday, 4th May,2025 at the Obogu Presby Park.

The tournament would see youth teams from eight communities in the district, Obogu, Banso, Apragya, Nyarkoma, Abekobom, Ofoase, Konongo and Kokoben battle it out for top prizes.

Participants would compete in the Under 13, 15 and 17 categories alongside an all-female tournament for some teams.

Mr. Mac Kofi Mawuli Quarshie, founder of ProjectBonolo speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports, said the project had been in the pipeline over the past few years following preparations being made to organize a successful tournament.

“We have been working tirelessly to get this project moving. We previously had some projects we were working on, like the workshop with the Netball Federation and the Ghana Education Service so I think it’s now time to make this dream a reality too in the Asante Akim district”

He said the tournament was under the football development and promotion of the ProjectBonolo initiative.

The founder announced that the tournament would be held three times in a calendar year at a four-month interval.

“Some renowned scouts, agents and club directors across the globe have been invited to be part of this tournament and we are hoping that their presence would be the beginning of something great for these young individuals,” he said.

Mr. Quarshie called on corporate Ghana to come to the aid of ProjectBonolo in making the event a success.

The tournament will have eight clubs participating in four categories from group stages to finals.

The best two highly placed teams in each group would qualify to the knockout stage whereas the winners of the semi-final matches would also sail through to the finals.

Winners of the Asante Akyem Invitational Football Tournament will be awarded trophies and equipment as individual awards will be given to outstanding players.

Project Bonolo is an initiative designed to take various forms of sports to underserved areas, ensuring that all districts, regardless of location, benefit from structured sports development.
