Africa-Press – Ghana. A severe rainstorm has ripped off parts of the roofing of the Lambussie Community Senior High School (LCSHS) building and causing damage to classrooms and the headmaster’s office.
Three classrooms of the E-Block structure, a section of headmaster’s office, the Hot Kitchen structure were affected; and two Rambo size stand polytank and 12 ceiling fans in the classrooms were completely destroyed.
Some documents, textbooks and exercise books in the office were saved due to the presence of students and some staff in the school during the heavy storm.
Mr. Sulemana Sumaila, Headmaster of the Lambussie SHS in an interview with the GNA described the incident as “unfortunate disaster”, which occurred when the school just resumed.
He noted that this was the sixth instance of the school’s roof being damaged since the school was established in January 2017.
He said it was imperative for stakeholders to devise pragmatic solutions to curtail the recurring situation in the school.
Mr. Sulemana appealed to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the Member of Parliament (MP) Professor Titus Kofi Beyuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr. Naawulle Ireneous Basingbie; non-government organisations and individual philanthropists to help provide immediate support to the school.
Some students, in an interaction with the GNA, expressed worry over the situation and called on the government to come to the aid of the school.
“We need the government to provide support to the school authority with roofing sheets, nails, iron rods, and a lot to fix our classrooms,” they said.
Mr. David Bapennere Boon, the Assemblyman for the area in an interview with the GNA also described the destruction of the classrooms as devastating and traumatising for the students.
He appealed to the government and corporate bodies to urgently support refurbishing the affected structures.
