Africa-Press – Ghana. Only seven female candidates are contesting in the upcoming District Assembly Elections in the Nkoranza North and Nkoranza South in the Bono East Region, Dr Gabriel Dei Yeboah, the Bono East Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, has said.
The winners would represent the interest of their respective constituents in the decision making processes of the Assemblies.
Dr Yeboah explained that the female candidates represented only four percent of the total number of the 194 candidates vying in the elections, scheduled for Tuesday May 13, 2025.
In an interview, Dr Yeboah explained that two candidates, all males, also filed to contest the Atebubu-Amantin bye-election.
That bye-election followed the demise of the late Moro Issah, the incumbent Assembly Member for the Dagarti-line Electoral Area, who died a month after he won the elections.
The EC, in a statement, announced the mounting of campaign platforms for the candidates to engage their respective constituents, and share their manifestoes and visions, between Friday May 9, and Sunday, May 11.
The campaign would enable the electorate to make informed decisions when they go to the polls.
In a breakdown, Dr Yeboah explained that 95 candidates, comprising 93 males, and three females were vying in the Nkoranza North which had 26 Electoral Areas.
He said the Nkoranza South had 29 Electoral Areas and 94 candidates, including two females.
Dr Yeboah indicated that the mounting of the campaign platform began on Friday May 9, saying it had been successfully conducted in some of the Electorl Areas.
He lauded the level of comportment and sense of maturity exhibited by the candidates and their supporters so far, and commended them for their participation.
Dr Yeboah said he was highly optimistic that the campaigns and the elections in general would be successful and peaceful.
