Africa-Press – Ghana. The Scout and Guide Fellowship of Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to training the youth through its disciplinary tutorship and vision to ensure they become meaningful citizens in the country.

This would be achieved through joint activities, partnerships, and collaboration to strengthen the principles of scouting. The President of Scout and Guide Fellowship of Ghana Prosper Bani made this known at the 2022 Annual General Meeting of Scout and Guide Fellowship of Ghana which was held in grand style in Accra.

According to him, the Fellowship is an organization that works with the principle of scouting and its members are made up of older scouts and guides who are committed to supporting younger scouts.

“Our coming together also provides us the opportunity to continue engaging the young scouts and to make a difference in our communities.

As we deliberate at this AGM to take stock of our past activities and also plan for the future, we will keep in mind the increasing impact of Climate change and its effect on livelihoods.

We have seen the desertification of our savanna lands and severe droughts in parts of Africa, the impact of floods in our cities, and the destruction of infrastructure and agricultural lands, all these threaten our existence on this earth,” he explained.

The former Interior Minister and Chief of Staff also underscored the need for government, private institutions, and Individuals to contribute to keeping the earth a safe and a better place for all.

This he said, they are committed to working with the Forestry Commission to obtain seedlings for this endeavor. He also entreated each scout member to plant a tree each month as a contribution to making the world greener, and more environmentally friendly.

He further called on non-governmental organizations, private enterprises, and public institutions to collaborate with SGF Ghana and all scouts and guides movements to populate their communities with trees to stop the encroaching of the Sahara Desert onto our Greenfields.

The Chief Commissioner for Ghana Girls Guides Zakiya Abdul Wahab also further emphasized the need for nurturing the youth by educating and instilling in them moral values to become responsible and patriotic citizens.

She stated that even during the Covid-19 pandemic, the organization was still carrying out its activities by leveraging technology to reach out to the youth. This she said signifies that still, Scout and Guide Fellowship has the youth at heart.

Stressing that, the organization will continue empowering young people in diverse ways to enable them to contribute their quota to the development of the nation.

However, she called for effective collaboration among members in order to ensure active operations and the smooth running of the association to enable them to achieve the desired goals.

The Past President of the Scout and Guide Fellowship of Ghana Dr. Edward Mettle – Nunoo explained that the Scouting and Guiding Method is to groom the youth from early childhood, and inculcate into them a positive attitude of discipline, law-abiding, honesty, loyalty, patriotism, and the spirit of volunteerism.

According to the Deputy Chief Fellow to the President of Ghana, many great world leaders have once been trained along these core values, and in addition, the laws of Scouting and Guiding.

“We are seriously challenged and compelled by circumstances of our time to wake up and put our homes in order. Our schools have neglected Scouting and Guiding and our communities have become a den of hooligans and indiscipline youth,” he lamented.

It is time for us to start promoting Scouting and Guiding in schools and communities in order to raise responsible leaders who will contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation.
