SSNIT Urges Employers to use Digital Platforms for Convenience

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has urged employers and employees to use the organisation’s digital platforms regularly to fast-track transactions and ensure smooth compliance with statutory requirements.

Stakeholders have also been encouraged to stay updated with new digital tools and provide feedback as the institution worked to enhance service delivery with technology.

Speaking at a Breakfast Meeting with some employers in Accra, Mr Kwesi Afreh Biney, the Director General of SSNIT, emphasised the company’s plan to launch “a virtual branch” by end of September 2025.

“We are bringing services to the doorsteps of the people to make it convenient for them to pay…,” he said.

“That is why the focus of today’s conversation is on the digital platforms that we have made available to make it seamless for the employer to be compliant with the requirement of the law.”

“Our digital platforms exist today…what we are seeking to do is to scale that to the next level where we have a virtual branch manned by people who are readily available to provide timely response to enable clients to have the full benefit of the services we provide.”

He said the company was currently paying monthly pensions to some 257,000 pensioners and would continue to engage stakeholders to ensure employers complied fully with SSNIT obligations.

The forum, on the theme: “Strengthening Employer Compliance for a Sustainable Pension Scheme through Digital Transformation,” formed part of strategies to ensure stakeholders continued to align with the organisation’s mandate.

Mr Alex Frimpong, the Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Employers Association, in an interview, tasked SSNIT to use its digital platforms to intensify education on the benefits of SSNIT to employees.

He said a better understanding and appreciation of the role of social security went a long way to improve compliance.

“Only the contributors can talk about satisfaction or otherwise of what SSNIT does. But as an association, we believe that regular interaction to know the key issues, concerns, and how we can collectively improve is very important,” he said.

Presenting the company’s various digital platforms, Mr Philip Kofi Senyah, the General Manager, Operations, noted that 76,454 Andriod users had downloaded the SSNIT Mobile Application.

The download statistics on the Apple and Huawei platforms stood at 25,400 and 953, respectively, he noted, and called for more frequent usage of the platforms.

“These are people who have downloaded the application…so if you have downloaded it, use it because we are more interested in that,” Mr Senyah noted.

He said SSNIT would enhance nationwide presence through partnerships with banks as it rolled out the all-day “full service virtual branch.”

Mr Senyah highlighted the convenience of the SSNIT Mobile App, Website, and USSD Code, which, among other things, allowed clients to initiate and complete registration, pay contributions and access statements.

Emphasising employers’ obligations to SSNIT, he commended the partners for their collaboration, adding that the organisation was open to feedback and would continue to enhance customer experience.

The forum brought together representatives of various institutions to deliberate on issues and address some operational concerns.
