Africa-Press – Ghana. The Management of the State Housing Company Limited (SHC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, has issued a formal notice to the public regarding the encroachment of their lands and property.
“Our recent nationwide land audit has revealed significant levels of unauthorized occupation, encroachment and development on SHC owned lands and property across various parts of the country. These activities hinder the Company’s ability to execute its mandate of providing quality, affordable homes for the citizens of Ghana”.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations Department of SHC and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday, the SHC served notice to all persons, groups, entities, and developers occupying, developing, selling, leasing or laying claim to any SHC land or property without valid and verifiable documents issued by the Company to cease such activities immediately.
“The public is reminded that State Lands are protected under the Laws of Ghana, particularly the Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036) which reinforces the protection of State Lands and outlines the procedures for the management and recovery of such lands. Unauthorized occupation constitutes a criminal and civil offense under the Laws of Ghana”.
According to the statement SHC also invited all persons who had encroached upon or were currently occupying SHC lands or property without valid documentation to: stop all development activities immediately, report to any State Housing Company Limited office within 21 days of the notice for verification and regularization, where applicable, submit an application for formal regularization of their interest in the land or property, subject to the Company’s planning and zoning requirements.
“The company wishes to state that it will not hesitate to take decisive actions after expiry of this notice including but not limited to:Legal action, demolition of unauthorized structures, recovery of lands and property, and collaborate with State security agencies and relevant authorities to enforce the law”.
SHC advised the public to conduct due diligence and verify all land and property transactions with SHC directly.
“ SHC shall not be liable to losses incurred through dealings with unauthorized persons. This notice is issued in the interest of protecting State assets, ensuring orderly development, and upholding the rule of law.”
