Sunyani Technical University appeals for support for 55th anniversary

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Sunyani Technical University (STU) has appealed for media support for its 55th anniversary celebration as it works towards a world class technical university.

The theme for the anniversary is: “STU, 55 Years of Progress and Achievement in TVET: Mobilizing Excellence for Leadership in Ghana’s Industrialisation Agenda”.

Professor Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah, the Vice-Chancellor (VC), who made the appeal, said the STU required support of the media for the implementation of a new master plan to achieve its vision of becoming a world class technical university.

As a key stakeholder, the VC called on the media not to only project the University, but also be at the forefront in ensuring that the institution mobilises the required financial resources to push infrastructural development.

Interacting with the Chief Executive Officers of the local FM radio stations at a breakfast meeting on Monday in Sunyani, Prof. Adinkrah-Appiah said the University had set up a GhC300 million endowment fund with GhC50 million seed capital to raise the needed funds for the implementation of the master plan.

Prof. Adinkrah-Appiah appealed to corporate bodies, institutions and wealthy individuals as well as past students to contribute to the fund. Throwing more light on the anniversary celebration, Prof. Jones Lewis Arthur, the Chairman of the anniversary Planning Committee, said a number of activities had been rolled out from now to Saturday, November 5, this year when it would be climaxed with a grand durbar.

He mentioned some of the activities as TVET Fest and Quiz, documentaries, excellent leadership lecture series, stakeholder engagements and outdooring of the University’s alumni. Prof. Arthur appealed to the media to help publicize the activities to achieve desirable outcomes.
