Africa-Press – Ghana. Ghana’s badminton team has bagged five medals at the World U-19 Badminton Championships held at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra.
The medals were two gold, one silver and two bronze.
The event, also called the JE Wilson Ghana Junior International 2025 badminton championships, ended on Sunday, August 10, 2025, where Ghana and Nigeria dominated in the medals table.
In the women’s doubles event, Ghana’s dynamic duo, Moslena Ama Koramah Adu and Rachael Quarcoo, overpowered Egypt’s Karma Elghandour and Salma Salah Edin to secure a commanding victory.
In the mixed doubles event, it was an exciting finale by team Ghana, where national champion Obapomba Adu Mintah and Moslena Ama Koramah Adu defeated their Ghanaian counterparts Francis Obeng and Rachael Quarcoo to win gold.
In the men’s Singles event, team Nigeria asserted its dominance, where Seidu Aliyu claimed gold after defeating his counterpart Aderinola Samuel in a hard-fought match for gold.
In the men’s doubles events, Saidu Aliyo and Aderinola Samuel of Nigeria secured gold, whereas Ghana’s Melchizedek Takyi Adu and Nathaniel Abeka Kwaw won silver medals.
In the Women’s Single event, Egyptians dominated, where Ramah Hussein defeated Malayka Mohamed for the gold medal.
Mr. Richard Akpokavi, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, praised the Badminton Association for the rapid growth of the sport in the country.
He said, “Watching these young athletes compete at such a high level is truly inspiring; this proves that with continued investment, we’re not far from Olympic success.”
Mr Evans Yeboah, President of the Ghana Badminton Association, commended the players for their exceptional performances throughout the tournament.
The 2025 Ghana Grand Slam continues with senior-level competition, running until August 17, 2025, promising more exhilarating badminton action in the days ahead.
