Thomas-Asante and Sulemana named in Ghana’s squad for World Cup qualifiers

Africa-Press – Ghana. The newest additions to the Black Stars squad for Ghana’s World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic are West Bromwich Albion’s Brandon Thomas-Asante and Cagliari’s Ibrahim Sulemana.

Brandon Thomas Asante has been in fine form for West Bromwich Albion in attack in all competitions this season, scoring 11 goals and providing two assists in 41 appearances.

The 25-year-old has a 0.31 goal and assist per game ratio this season, and has earned himself his first call-up to the national team, with a possible debut set to arrive either against Mali or the Central African Republic in June.

Ibrahim Sulemana on the other hand has been crucial for Cagliari in midfield in the Serie A this season, making 21 appearances while scoring two goals from a deeper role.

Ghana’s defensive midfield role has often lacked options, and the absence of Baba Iddrisu and Majeed Ashimeru due to injury could pave the way for Sulemana to make his debut and mark in the senior men’s national team.

The duo will be joined by 24 other players, with Thomas Partey said to lead the Black Stars in the qualifiers as Ghana seek its first victory this year.
