Transport Minister Launches Ghana Transport Fair 2025

Africa-Press – Ghana. The Minister for Transport, Mr. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has officially launched Ghana’s maiden Transport and Logistics Fair 2025, describing it as a groundbreaking national platform to reposition the sector as the backbone of Ghana’s socio-economic growth.

Speaking at the official media launch in Ho on Friday, the Minister said the Fair was a bold national statement and a deliberate convergence of innovation, investment, and inclusive dialogue to address longstanding inefficiencies in the sector.

“Transportation connects our farms to markets, our ports to the rest of the world, and our people to opportunities and jobs. For far too long, national development efforts have been constrained by inefficiencies in the movement of goods and people, fragmented systems, and inadequate private sector involvement,” Mr. Nikpe said.

He outlined government’s reform agenda under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, with priorities including modernising rail, maritime, and aviation infrastructure to improve connectivity and reduce logistics costs and digitalising ports and customs operations to enhance transparency.

Others are expanding multimodal transport networks, including inland water transport and regional rail corridors and strengthening regulatory frameworks to ensure safety, discipline, and professionalism across all modes.

“These priorities align with government’s resetting agenda for the transportation sector,” the Minister noted, explaining that the Fair’s theme: “Resetting Ghana’s Transport Sector for Improved Connectivity, Innovation, and Investment,” reflected the country’s commitment to building a modern, resilient, and inclusive system.

He said the Fair, scheduled for October 22–24 at the Accra Trade Fair Centre, would not just be an exhibition but a platform for dialogue, innovation, and collaboration, bringing together policymakers, private sector players, academia, development partners, and the public.

“Your active participation is critical in shaping a responsive, resilient, and reform-minded transport sector,” he told stakeholders, including road, rail, aviation, maritime, inland water transport operators, and informal mobility systems such as motorcycle and tricycle operators.

The Minister further stressed Ghana’s strategic position to become a transport hub for West Africa under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

He urged the media to support the fair extensively, not as a one-off event, but as a movement toward a more connected and competitive Ghana.

The launch also saw remarks from private sector partners spearheading the initiative.

Dr. Chief Nat Nsorko, Chief Executive of Digital Eye Ltd, said the Fair was designed to create an enabling environment for dialogue, innovation, and policy reform between government and private sector actors.

“Transport is the spine of our economic growth. No trade, agriculture, or manufacturing can thrive without it,” he said.

He said the Fair will attract both local and international investors because Ghana’s stability and strategic position made it an attractive hub for global business.

Mrs. Nana-Hemaa Adjoa Awindor, Executive Director of Digital Eye Ltd, added that the Fair would feature exhibitions, seminars, and interactive experiences, including innovation showcases, EV models, and educational tours for schoolchildren.

“We are creating a platform for government and private sector players to engage directly, to dialogue, and to drive policy changes that will impact positively on the transport sector,” she said.

Beyond business, the Fair would also be an opportunity for the public, especially young people, to experience transport innovations first-hand, she said.

The launch was attended by key agencies under the Transport Ministry, the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), and other stakeholders.
